Gobble Up These Thanksgiving Holiday Pediatric Therapy Tips
⚡ Quick Wins: Holiday Edition
Thanksgiving is a time for family, food, and fun — but for many kids, it’s also a day full of change. New faces, noisy rooms, unfamiliar foods, travel, later bedtimes, and fancy clothes can add up fast. When routines shift, communication and regulation can get harder, and that’s completely normal. 💛
The good news? A little planning goes a long way. Here are tips from our speech, OT, and physical therapy providers to help your whole family enjoy the holiday.
Check out the Quick Wins Below!
🗓️ First–Then
“First dinner, then dessert.” Short and simple helps kids follow the plan.
🎧 Break Card
Give your child a card or a signal they can use to ask for a quiet break.
🙏 Model Manners
Say “please” and “thank you” to your child often. They learn by hearing it!
🍠 One Safe Food
Always include one familiar food on your child’s plate to lower stress.
🚶 Walk It Off
A post-meal family walk helps with energy, mood, and digestion.
Helping Your Child Give Thanks
Saying “thank you” is a social communication skill, not just good manners! To thank someone, a child has to notice what another person did, understand that it was kind, and choose the right words at the right moment. That’s why kids learn it best from seeing it modeled again and again in real-life moments, not just from being reminded. Every time you thank your child, you’re giving them a mini lesson. 💬💗
